Rice Krispie French Toast
Here’s my recipe
(adapted from: this)
1 unsliced loaf French bread (purchase a simple one from your local grocery)
2 cups rice krispies
1/4 tsp cinnamon
4 eggs
3/4 cup cream
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
canola oil
Topping: maple syrup or honey
Method
Slice bread to 1.5” - 2” (whichever you prefer)
Whisk eggs + cream + vanilla together in bowl large enough for one slice...

bookreadingbookworm asked: Just found your tumblr and knew I had to follow you when I saw that we teach Romeo and Juliet the same way! And you should check out a book that the Folger Shakespeare Libary put together. It's called Shakespeare Set Free, and I've used their activities/variations of their activities for every single Shakespeare play I've ever taught. And lucky you being on break! Enjoy!

It Was Worth It.
I was just burned on the side of my right hand by splattering oil as I fried pounded out pork chops.
I then majorly burned my left hand while pouring a big old pot of potatoes into the colander to strain them in prep for garlic mashed potatoes.
Somehow, it was still worth it:
Marsala Pork & Mashed Potatoes.

Do I tell them?
[Students are sitting on the couch in my classroom after finishing their Freshman PreAP English final]
Student A: Yeah, my cat died... like last week.
I look up from grading.
Student A: Oh, wait it was two weeks ago.
Me: Actually, it was over Thanksgiving break... You said that it died over break and we all got really quiet. Then you said, [in my mocking voice that I use for all male impersonations] "It's OK though, He was a BRO."
Kids laugh again.
Two other students: Mrs. Willis, how do you remember that?
Me: [thinking - do I tell them that I blogged about that conversation on my tumblr?]
Same students [receive no answer, so follow with]: Mrs. Willis, is that really Student A's voice?

How am I supposed to take that?
After seeing the grade on his final and his overall grade for the semester, where he barely received an ‘A’, a PreAP student said to me:
“Yeah, honestly, I underestimated this class.
I’ll do better next semester.”
How am I supposed to take that?
I just don’t know…

Poetry
Student A: Mrs. Willis, while you were out sick last week, I wrote a poem. It's called "To Pee or Not To Pee, That is the Eternal Question"
Student A (The next day): Mrs. Willis, can I confess something to you? When the sub was here last week, I told him that I had special couch privileges and sat there both days...
Student A is getting lots of THE LOOK from me this week.
